Why Solid Wood is a Solid Choice

As a furniture consumer, you have more choices today than ever: choices in style, choices in materials, choices in construction, and even choices in country of origin. One reason to choose Standout furniture is our use of standout American solid wood.

Solid wood is natural wood through and through

The top surface of wood veneer typically measures between 1/50" and 1/36" thick. Beneath the surfaces lies a core of inferior wood slices, MDF or particleboard. The last two are made of compressed waste wood, sawdust, and formaldehyde glue resins. Laminates use the same cores and are thinner yet, typically less than half the weight of everyday copier paper.

Solid wood, by comparison, is actual wood, through and through. Boards are bonded edge to edge with stronger-than-wood glue to create larger surfaces. Can you tell the solid wood sample below from the particleboard veneer and MDF laminate samples?

As you shop for your home theater furniture, we encourage you to ask about the nature of the wood used in the product. Is it MDF veneer? Is it American wood? If you do, we are confident that you will discover that our solid wood furniture is a solid value too.

Standout solid wood comes from renewable local resources

Pennsylvanians once suffered from the environmental ills wrought by excessive logging of the state's forests. Today, Pennsylvania is a leader in promoting forest sustainability. Over 2.3 million acres of forest are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. Forests cover 60% of the state and Pennsylvania is the nation's leading producer of hardwood lumber.

By choosing furniture made from responsibly harvested trees, you can rest assured that your Standout wood furniture purchase is not contributing to the clearcutting now rampant in Asia. Even if you are considering a renowned American brand, ask from where it came. What you learn may just surprise you.
