Setting Up Your New Furniture

Standout furniture arrives "ready to enjoy," not "ready to assemble." Still, there are few things to do before sitting down to watch that big game or great movie. Here is some advice.

NOTE: If you have not yet done so, please review our Safety Considerations before proceeding.

Process Overview

The following order of setup makes sense for most people. Please review and alter to reflect your particular situation. Subsequent sections address certain tasks in more detail.

  • Unpack unit*
  • Level unit in final position*
  • Add shelves
  • Add internal electronics
  • Add back panels
  • Place back unit in final position*
  • Add television*

  • * Two people recommended

Unpack Your Unit

Our new packaging makes unpacking your console exceptionally easy: cut the bands and lift off the top.

Level Your Unit

For your safety and for optimal viewing, level your unit using its levelers. Turn the foot of a leveler clockwise to lengthen it and counterclockwise to shorten it. It should be absolutely level and not rock. Thoroughly test in the unit's final position before proceeding.

Add Shelves

Each shelf is supported by four shelf supports. These are normally found in the top drawer of units with drawers. The supports feature vinyl covers to prevent slippage with glass shelves. Make sure that each support is firmly in place and at the same height.

On models with doors, we recommend that you insert shelves from the back to avoid having to angle the shelves past the door hinges. If this is not convenient, we suggest that you angle the shelf up opposite the hinges.

Add Electronics

On models with doors, we recommend that you insert components from the back. It may be helpful to thread cables and wires before placing components. Make sure to leave sufficient airflow around your equipment (consult electronic manufacturer's documentation). Place the heaviest components on the bottom of component bays. Do not overload shelves.

Add Back Panels (where applicable)

Use the supplied screws to affix your back panels after adding internal components. The cabinet features threaded inserts that allow a tight fit without risk of stripping screws. It is not necessary to use a great deal of force.

Place in Position

At this point, you may move the unit into its final position. Reconfirm that the unit sits level and does not rock.

Add Television

With the aid of at least one other person, position your TV on the top of your unit, making sure that there is no overhang of its base or foot over the front or back of the unit. To avoid damaging your unit's finish, when fine tuning position, lift rather than slide your TV.

Door Glass (where applicable)

The four panel retainer clips that hold glass in our doors come preinstalled. To add a glass pane, make sure that the screws in the clips are loosened or tightened adequately to allow the clip to freely spin. Place the glass in the door frame, position the top clips over the glass, and tighten (use gravity to your advantage). Keep holding the glass pane with one on both sides as a precaution. Next, position the bottom clips and tighten. DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN!

Alternatively, if you have the assistance of another person, you could do the bottom clips first. Likewise, if you are familiar with the release and locking mechanisms of the cabinet cup hinges used in your unit, you could unclip the doors from their hinges to work on a flat surface.
